Party in the USA

When my health started to deteriorate last year, Gaz decided to take us on an overseas family trip as we had no idea how bad I was going to get in the months or years to come.
For me, I love the cold and escaping from summer heat was an added plus.
We started in Las Vegas and shopped our little hearts out, we spent New Years there and had a fabulous time. Early the next morning we had a flight, there was not an empty taxi in sight so as a kick start to the new year we jumped in a stretch limo that had a disco ball and blaring tunes, with some of us being jetlagged still as well as being extremely overtired some funny stuff happened in that limo.
We then arrived in to Port Canaveral for just one night for the next morning to jump on a cruise around the Caribbean, the ports we went to were the Dominican Republic, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Grand Turk. My favourite was Puerto Rico; we went and looked at the castle, got plenty of photos at the sentries or as Sheree says the “ancient urinals!” On our walk back to the ship, we got completely saturated! We salsa’d all the way back the ship and the locals were looking at us like we were absolute idiots. We met some amazing people and just relaxed on the cruise – which for me is very hard to do!
After the cruise, we went to Orlando and spent a couple of fun packed days at Universal Studios. The favourite part of Universal Studios for the whole family was the Harry Potter World. Luke bought an interactive wand and absolutely loved performing magic tricks. I loved the roller coasters because who doesn’t love adrenaline?? One thing that I found insane in Orlando was the food! A challenge one restaurant had was you had to eat a massive burger and finish up with a two pound piece of cake in less than an hour! For someone who has a big appetite, I knew that there was no chance of even making a dint in the cake so stayed away from the challenge and ordered an Elvis Presley as it was his birthday (deep fried chocolate and peanut butter roll) Although it was much smaller than the two pound cake I still hardly ate any of it! We also went to see an NBA game while in Orlando, we watched Orlando Magic vs Washington Wizards. The wizards won and the whole family appeared on the massive television twice! Also while we were in Orlando we caught up with some family friends Gersh and Wendy, it was lovely to see them both again.
After leaving Orlando the most exciting part of the holiday for me was skiing in Vail, Colorado. Some of the funniest moments of the holiday was had here. The first day of skiing and on the second run Pete took me down a black run which for me being a cripple and not having done sport for ages nearly killed me! After this black run though, I was so warmed up as well not just from skiing but from the laughs had by Pete and I as he was stacking half way down the mountain whilst he adjusted to the powder. At the end of the day, we started heading home and out of nowhere, I hit something and did a full on front flip. Pete killed himself laughing as he has never seen such a funny stack! Not even two minutes after that fall I didn’t see a mogul and BAM! I felt like I fell off the cliff of the mountain. I popped right back up and yet again Peter was nearly wetting himself laughing. Vail village was just stunning. After the skiing Peter, Gaz and Sheree headed back to Australia while Mum, Luke and I were off to Baltimore and New York.
The procedure went off without a hitch and we arrived into New York just before the snow storm Jonas hit. Overnight we woke up to a winter wonderland, the city was blanketed. Mum and I went out for a walk – it was so much fun even if it was in the middle of a blizzard! We got back to the hotel absolutely covered in snow. Even in all my years skiing this was a first at how heavy it dumped. You could not even see the top of the buildings. By 2:30pm the mayor declared a complete travel ban so the city was empty not one horn tooted except those of Emergency vehicles. Mum and I decided again to go for a walk and get some McDonalds for Luke. We walked all the way down 6th avenue just in the middle of the road. It was fabulous! That’s a memory I guarantee I will never forget.
